Abstract
The convergence of AI-driven automation with industrial control environments is reshaping how integration projects are designed, but it is also expanding the points at which those projects are exposed to security threats. Existing research tends to treat AI-driven efficiency gains and industrial cybersecurity as separate topics, leaving a gap around the specific integration points—data ingestion, transformation, autonomous decision-making, and actuation—where the two intersect. This paper reviews the current literature on industrial automation, cybersecurity threats, and integration challenges, then proposes a research design that examines real and representative integration case studies to identify where security risk concentrates and what design-stage interventions can reduce it. The expected contribution is a combined framework that treats the integration point itself, rather than the AI model or the control system in isolation, as the primary unit of security analysis, along with practical, design-stage guidance for integration teams.
